Canoga Park, CA – On January 3, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m., a Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) pursuit of a grand theft auto (GTA) suspect tore through the San Fernando Valley, starting on Westbound Ventura Boulevard near Tampa Avenue and ending in a mobile home park off Topanga Canyon Boulevard. The suspect, still at large, ditched the stolen vehicle on Willow Street and fled southbound through a neighbor’s yard, prompting LAPD’s Topanga Division to establish a perimeter search. The chase, weaving through busy areas Calabasas, disrupted the Valley’s evening calm and underscored persistent hit-and-run challenges.
LAPD Topanga Division officers initiated the pursuit after identifying a stolen vehicle, described as a silver sedan, on Ventura Boulevard near Tampa Avenue, per an LAPD alert on X by @LAPDTopanga. The suspect, attempting to evade capture, sped through Woodland Hills, briefly pulling into the Target parking lot off De Soto Avenue in an unsuccessful bid to lose police. The chase continued west into Calabasas, then looped through residential and commercial zones along Topanga Canyon Boulevard, reaching speeds of up to 80 mph.
The suspect then entered a mobile home park near Topanga Canyon and Willow Street in Topanga, where they abandoned the vehicle on Willow Street. The driver, described as a male in dark clothing, fled on foot, last seen sprinting southbound through a resident’s yard.. LAPD established a perimeter, deploying officers and a helicopter to search the area, the suspect was later caught in a neighboring property. No injuries or collisions were reported during the chase.
