SIMI VALLEY, Calif. (January 11, 2026) Emergency crews responded Sunday morning to an overturned big rig on the eastbound Ronald Reagan Freeway (State Route 118), just west of Rocky Peak Road, amid strong gusty winds sweeping through the region.

The incident, reported around 9:17am involved a Costco delivery truck whose empty trailer flipped over. The driver was able to safely exit the cab and was not injured.

Ventura County Fire Department, Los Angeles Fire Department, and California Highway Patrol personnel quickly arrived at the scene. Officials noted that the trailer being empty likely contributed to the flip, as the high winds part of an ongoing wind advisory affecting areas including the Santa Clarita Valley and surrounding hills made the lightweight rig more susceptible to being pushed over.
A minor fuel spill occurred across lanes #2 and #3, but it was contained and did not require a hazardous materials response. The #1 lane remained open, allowing traffic to continue flowing through the area with delays.

The National Weather Service had issued a wind advisory for the region, with northeast winds of 20-30 mph and gusts up to 50 mph, particularly strong in hilly areas. Drivers of high profile vehicles were urged to exercise caution.
The freeway has since opened back up. No other injuries were reported, and the incident remained under investigation by the CHP.
