Simi Valley, CA – On April 10, 2025, at 6:33 p.m., the Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD) and AMR Ventura County executed a remote rescue of an injured adult male mountain biker approximately 1.5 miles up the Hummingbird Trail above Hummingbird Ranch in Simi Valley. The rider was airlifted by Ventura County’s Helicopter 5 to a nearby landing zone and transported to Simi Adventist Medical Center for evaluation.

VCFD units from Fire Station 41, along with AMR paramedics, responded to a 911 call reporting an injured mountain biker on the Hummingbird Trail, a steep, rocky path popular among cyclists and hikers, per a VCFD. The rider, a man in his 30s, had fallen, sustaining injuries—possibly fractures or head trauma—that prevented him from riding or walking out. Due to the trail’s remote location and rugged terrain, ground access was limited, prompting VCFD to deploy “Copter 5” for a hoist operation.

The helicopter located the biker 1.5 miles from the trailhead, airlifted him to a designated landing zone near Kuehner Drive, and transferred him to an AMR ambulance by 7:15 p.m.. He was then taken to Simi Adventist Medical Center, less than a mile away, for evaluation, with his condition undisclosed but stable. No other injuries were reported, and the rescue caused no trail closures.
