At approximately 2 PM, the Los Angeles city fire department responded to the intersection of Vanowen near Woodlake. Fireman found a LA sanitation trash truck smoking from a fire inside the bed. Firefighters quickly had the trash truck driver dumped the load of trash so the fire did not spread further damaging the sanitation vehicle. Fires inside trash trucks are common due to residents throwing out items with lithium ion batteries inside. The trash, then compacts in the truck and crushes the battery starting a fire. The firefighters were able to quickly knock out the fire and other sanitation trucks were dispatched to help pick up the rest of the trash in the street
