Street Racing Leads to Crash in Woodland Hills

Woodland Hills, CA – A high-speed traffic collision, suspected to involve street racing, disrupted the early morning calm outside El Camino Real High School at Valley Circle Boulevard and Mariano Street in Woodland Hills on October 8, 2023, at 1:33 a.m. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) West Valley Division, alongside the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Topanga and Valley Traffic Divisions, responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash, marking the third street racing-related incident at this intersection in the past year. The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) treated two patients, with no fatalities reported.

At 1:33 a.m., CHP West Valley received reports of a collision at Valley Circle Boulevard and Mariano Street, a residential intersection near El Camino Real High School, known for its proximity to your queried West Hills and Topanga Mall areas. Prior to the crash, witnesses reported one of the vehicles, a white sedan, engaging in street racing, according to CHP. The sedan collided with a second vehicle, a dark SUV, causing significant damage to both. LAFD crews from nearby Fire Station 84 arrived promptly, assessing two adult patients—drivers of the vehicles—for minor to moderate injuries. Both were transported to local hospitals, with conditions undisclosed, per LAFD’s Brian Humphrey.

The intersection, a straight stretch on Valley Circle conducive to high speeds, was closed for several hours as LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division and CHP investigated. Officers collected skid marks, debris, and surveillance footage from nearby homes, while CHP confirmed prior reports of racing activity involving the sedan. No arrests were immediately reported, and the drivers’ identities remain undisclosed pending the investigation. The public is urged to contact CHP West Valley at (818) 888-0980 or LAPD Valley Traffic at (818) 644-8000 with tips,

LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division, responsible for the San Fernando Valley’s 221.8 square miles, is leading the probe alongside CHP, focusing on speed, racing involvement, and potential DUI, though no evidence of intoxication has been confirmed. The intersection’s history—three racing-related crashes in 2024, per community reports—has intensified scrutiny.
