A man in his 60s or 70s was pronounced dead at the scene following a single vehicle crash on Valley Circle Near Bell Canyon Road Tuesday evening.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to reports of the incident at approximately 8:23pm on Valley Circle near the 24440 block of Bell Canyon Road, near Valley Circle Boulevard. I arrived to find a vehicle that had struck a tree and was emitting smoke.
Witnesses, including good Samaritans who stopped to help, attempted life saving measures. We cut the driver’s seat belt and checked for a pulse, while another began chest compressions on the unresponsive male driver, who was slumped over the wheel.
Paramedics from the LAFD continued CPR efforts upon arrival but ultimately declared the man deceased.
A neighbor and friend of the victim informed responders that the driver had a known history of heart problems. Preliminary indications suggest the crash may have resulted from a medical emergency while driving, though the official cause remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.
No other vehicles or individuals were involved. The victim’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
