Granda Hills, California July 29, 2025 Two women were shot Tuesday afternoon at a home-based preschool in Granada Hills, prompting a swift law enforcement response and a community shaken by violence at a facility serving young children. No children were harmed during the incident.
The shooting occurred shortly before 12:30 p.m. at a residence on the 17000 block of Firma Court that operates as the Kids Dream Learning Center, a licensed daycare facility. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, both victims—a daycare owner and an employee—were taken to the hospital in stable condition. One woman sustained a gunshot wound to the hand, while the other was shot in the upper body.
Authorities confirmed that children were inside the home during the shooting but were located in a separate area and were not injured. All children were safely reunited with their families later in the afternoon.
The suspect, described as a man in his seventies, fled the scene in a gray Tesla shortly after the shooting. He was located and arrested without incident several miles away, near the intersection of Balboa Boulevard and Sherman Way. A shotgun believed to be the weapon used in the attack was recovered from the gray Tesla.
Initial investigations suggest the shooting may have stemmed from a personal dispute. LAPD officials stated that a temporary restraining order had been filed against one of the victims earlier that same day. The shooter had just had a restraining order filed against him from his daughter in law when he came back to the home and grabbed a shotgun and fired off two shots.

“This appears to be an isolated incident involving a personal matter,” an LAPD spokesperson said. “There is no ongoing threat to the public or the surrounding community.”
The Los Angeles Fire Department and the LAPD’s Major Crimes Division responded to the scene. Homeland Security and other agencies were also notified as part of standard protocol for incidents at facilities involving children. The names of the victims and the suspect have not been released. The case remains under active investigation.
Officials have not yet confirmed whether the daycare will temporarily close. State child care licensing agencies have been notified and are expected to conduct a safety assessment. Anyone with information is urged to contact the LAPD’s Valley Bureau Homicide Unit.
