WOODLAND HILLS, CA – October 15, 2023 A tense standoff unfolded Sunday evening in the parking lot of an In-N-Out Burger near Topanga Canyon Boulevard and Vanowen Street, after a woman barricaded herself inside a bullet-riddled red Mazda at the restaurant’s drive-thru.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the woman — believed to be in her 30s — was found inside the vehicle with at least five bullet holes puncturing the front windshield. The car came to a stop directly in front of the pay window, drawing immediate attention from customers and employees alike. LAPD Topanga Division officers quickly responded to the scene, closing down the area and initiating a tactical response. The woman, who appeared to be in distress, refused to exit the vehicle, prompting a standoff that lasted more than an hour.
Officers negotiated with the woman throughout the standoff, working to de-escalate the situation. Eventually, she surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody without further incident. She was transported to a nearby hospital by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics from Rescue 72 for evaluation and treatment. Authorities have not yet released the woman’s identity or confirmed the origin of the gunfire that left the car’s windshield riddled with bullets. No officers or civilians were injured during the standoff.
LAPD Topanga Division is actively investigating the incident to determine the circumstances leading up to the confrontation and whether the bullet holes were the result of a prior shooting. Anyone with information is urged to contact LAPD Topanga detectives.
