Calabasas, CA – June 6, 2025 – A swift and coordinated response by the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) contained a structure fire that erupted in a home on the 5600 block of Ruthwood Drive in Calabasas at 4:28 PM today. The blaze, which originated in the kitchen and extended into the attic, was extinguished in just 18 minutes, with no injuries reported.
Firefighters arrived promptly to find flames and smoke emanating from the kitchen of a single-family residence. The fire had spread rapidly into the attic, presenting a challenging situation that required immediate action. LACoFD crews made quick entry into the home, navigating to the attic to access the fire’s core. Their efficient teamwork and strategic approach allowed them to knock down the blaze by 4:46 PM, preventing further damage to the structure and ensuring the safety of the surrounding area.


The LACoFD dispatched multiple units, including Battalion Chief 5, Engines 65, 67, 125, and 68, along with Quint 89 and Squad 68, to tackle the incident. The rapid knockdown was attributed to the firefighters’ aggressive interior fire attack and effective coordination, which confined the fire to the kitchen and attic areas. No occupants or responders were injured, and the home was safely evacuated prior to the firefighters’ arrival.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with LACoFD officials working to determine the origin and circumstances that led to the blaze. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety in the home, particularly in areas like the kitchen, where fires can ignite and spread quickly.
