Calabasas, CA – November 2, 2023 A chaotic scene unfolded Thursday evening in Calabasas after a violent assault outside a CVS escalated into an officer-involved shooting involving the Los Angeles Police Department. At approximately 7:55 p.m., LAPD officers responded to an “assault with a deadly weapon” call at 23537 Calabasas Road. According to a witness at the scene, the incident began when a man smashed a wine bottle over another person’s head just outside the CVS store. Witnesses said the suspect then brandished a machete and began swinging it at bystanders, escalating fear in the area.
During the confrontation, the suspect reportedly assaulted a man in a white truck before fleeing the immediate scene.Officers located the suspect a short time later inside the patio area of the Sagebrush Cantina, a popular nearby restaurant. It was there that an officer-involved shooting occurred. LAPD has not yet released details about what prompted the use of force or the condition of the suspect following the incident.
