Malibu, CA – October 29, 2023 A dramatic vehicle collision just after 9:00 PM on October 29, 2023, along 540 Schueren Road led to a heavy response from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACOFD). Initially feared to involve fatalities, the situation was later clarified after a thorough search by LACOFD’s helicopter crew.

The crash, which involved two vehicles colliding into a wall before overturning and coming to a stop on a nearby driveway, raised concerns of a possible fatality. CHP officers on the scene reported the potential for fatalities after locating the overturned vehicles. However, their initial assessment was redacted when LACOFD’s aerial team arrived to conduct a search. The copter crew confirmed that there were no individuals inside either of the vehicles at the time of the crash.

Preliminary reports from CHP officers suggest that the collision may have been the result of street racing. The area around Schueren Road has become increasingly known as a hotspot for illegal street racing activities, according to law enforcement sources. While no direct evidence linking the crash to street racing was confirmed on-site, CHP West Valley has stated that the circumstances surrounding the collision are consistent with such activities.

Compounding the investigation, power in the area was shut off due to high winds at the time, which also led to a temporary loss of security camera footage from nearby homes. As a result, there is currently limited surveillance footage to aid in the investigation. No additional injuries or parties were reported in the aftermath of the crash, and CHP West Valley is actively investigating the incident to determine the cause and any potential criminal activity. Anyone with information regarding the crash is encouraged to contact CHP West Valley for further investigation.

Sadly this home burned down later in the Palisades Fire on Jan 7th, 2025.
