WEST HILLS, CA – October, 29th 2023 A swift-moving brush fire broke out Monday evening near the west end of Nordhoff Street, just west of Topanga Canyon Boulevard, scorching approximately five acres of grassland amid gusty winds. The blaze, officially logged as INC#1323, was first reported around 5:11 p.m. at 8911 N Moorcroft Avenue in West Hills.
Fueled by wind gusts exceeding 20 mph, the fire prompted a multi-agency response, led by the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), with support from Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD) and Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD).
In total, 72 firefighters, working both on the ground and from the air, managed to knock down the flames in approximately 90 minutes. Thanks to rapid coordination and aggressive firefighting tactics, no structures were threatened, and no injuries were reported. Fire crews successfully established containment lines around the burn area and remain on scene conducting mop-up operations, including extinguishing residual hot spots and smoldering brush to prevent reignition. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
