West Hills, CA Thursday, January 22, 2026
A deputy involved shooting at Fallbrook Center Michael’s in West Hills Thursday night left one man dead following a series of armed robberies across Los Angeles counties earlier this week.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the shooting occurred at approximately 8:34pm in front of the Michaels store located at 6800 North Fallbrook Avenue. Deputies from the LASD Major crimes division , along with U.S. Marshals, were conducting surveillance in the area in connection with recent armed robberies targeting women at shopping centers.
Investigators say deputies that staked out the shopping center observed a male suspect approach a woman while armed with a firearm. A deputy involved shooting occurred shortly afterward and the suspect was shot in the chest. Bullets shattered multiple windows inside the Michaels. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene
Following the shooting, deputies pursued a white sedan that fled the Fallbrook Center parking lot. The pursuit ended in Agoura Hills, where an additional female suspect was taken into custody at Roadside Drive and Lewis Road. Her involvement in the incidents remains under investigation.
The Fallbrook Center area surrounding the Michaels store was secured for several hours as investigators processed the scene. Additional LASD units and LAPD officers responded to assist.
The shooting follows a string of armed robberies that began earlier in the week.
First reported by Royol News, on January 21, deputies responded to an armed robbery at approximately 7:39pm at the Calabasas Commons shopping center. A woman in her 40s reported being approached by a male suspect who pointed a black semi automatic handgun at her and demanded her Louis Vuitton purse. The victim complied, and the suspect fled on foot westbound through the parking lot.
The suspect was described as wearing all black clothing with long dreadlocks. Deputies conducted a search of the area but were unable to locate him.
Authorities noted similarities to an earlier incident on January 13, in which a woman was robbed of a designer handbag at gunpoint in the same general area. A suspect was detained near Calabasas Road and Valley Circle Boulevard during that incident but was later released.
Later on January 21, at approximately 9:00pm an attempted armed robbery was reported at the TJ Maxx near Thousand Oaks Boulevard and Lindero Canyon Road in Westlake Village. Deputies said a masked male suspect wearing black clothing and a beige hoodie attempted to rob a woman at gunpoint. The victim began honking her vehicle’s horn, causing the suspect to flee.
The suspect entered a white sedan and was last seen traveling on Thousand Oaks Boulevard. No injuries were reported.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased suspect. The deputy involved shooting remains under investigation, as is standard procedure.
Anyone with additional information related to these incidents is urged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
